Although it may seem like my renovation projects just fly by (and sometimes they do) it requires a lot more planning initially to get started. I’ll say now I’ve truly found my design taste, it’s much easier to replicate throughout my home. One of my go-to options to create continuity is utilizing the same flooring, but choosing a more budget-friendly option.
Today on the blog, I’ll be giving you all a complete rundown for everything you need about luxury vinyl planking (or LVP for short). While I’ve always loved the look of hardwood, I just cannot justify the price tag and easy wear-and-tear. Spoiler Alert: LVP is a much better option.
What are Luxury Vinyl Planks?
As many of you know, when I decide to redo a space in my home (or new office), a lot of thought and care goes into each design choice. I’ve always loved the look of hardwood over any other material, except my black and white tile accents, but from a practicality standpoint it’s not the best option. Once I gave LVP flooring a chance for the first time, I’ve been hooked ever since.
So what is LVP? Luxury vinyl plank is a synthetic flooring option made of multiple layers for both durability and aesthetics. Yes I love everything to look as beautiful as possible, but if it’s not functional it can’t go in my house with five boys.
Luxury Vinyl Plank Install Process
One of the best things about LVP flooring is how much time it cuts out of a remodel. The installation process is incredibly simple, all it takes is the time to lay it down. With a click and snap, a board is down and I just keep repeating the process until the space is complete.
How Durable Is It Really?
In my home with 6 boys (my five sons and husband), a flooring choice needs to be more than just visually appealing. Luxury vinyl plank steps up to the plate and makes it almost impossible to scratch or stain. I’ve used this flooring everywhere – the kitchen, closet, you name it, and haven’t had a single problem. Even with light wood it works great.
Although I haven’t tried all the LVP flooring brands out there, once I found one I liked – I stuck with it. I purchased it from Home Depot and absolutely love the color options available. To shop my exact flooring, click here.
Luxury Vinyl Planks In My Home
I mean it when this flooring is almost everywhere in my house. The continuity has made for a much more seamless blend throughout our home, but I use additional styling elements to make each space feel unique.
Kitchen
The flooring for our Monarch Revival Kitchen Remodel was a lot harder to decide than I thought. I knew LVP flooring was the only choice being so durable, but the color took me a bit of time to nail down. I went for a classic neutral brown that isn’t too light or too dark.
Closet
I hate to tease projects that aren’t complete yet, but I’m really excited about the flooring I chose. I wanted the closet to feel really light and airy, so I went with the same Lifeproof LVP flooring I’ve always used, but opting to a lighter color – Dusk Cherry to be specific.
Workshop
In Mallory’s Workshop, I really wanted this space to be durable and still feel warm. Although it might seem crazy to put down luxury vinyl planks in a garage, we’ve had zero complaints!
Office
Since the office is a space outside of our home, I wanted to try something a bit different and go for a pattern. Although this space is also not complete yet, I cannot wait to show you all the final result. To shop the specific boards I used in my office, click here.
