Today we are tackling a not so glamorous part of your home: the garage door. While I always loved the look of garage hinges, replacing our garage doors has never been a top priority for us. I can’t wait to share my decorative garage hinges and other ways to upgrade your garage on a budget!
Garage Door Upgrades vs. Replacement
Replacing a garage door is one of those dreaded home expenses. For a 2-car garage door, the starting price is around $3,000, but with garage hinges or other upgrades it can get even more expensive. For me (and I know all of you out there) replacing a garage door that functionality works just fine makes no sense. I always love trying to get a more expensive look for less, so this was such a fun challenge to work on.
If you’re interested in less expensive garage door upgrades, here are a few options I love:
- Paint your garage! Sometimes a fresh coat is all you need to elevate it.
- Try a faux wood finish. The lovely Making Pretty Spaces made an incredible DIY post walking you through every step.
- Decorative garage hinges. The most inexpensive and simple option that changes the overall vibe of your exterior.
What Are Decorative Garage Hinges?
Decorative garage hinges are such a beautiful way to elevate the look of your home’s exterior. Although they’re quite small, these metal hinges (typically black) are used to mimic the look of traditional barn doors. While I’m not a huge rustic fan, I do think these give a nod to the grandmillenial style I love so much- especially with contrasting white doors.
I love the look of hinges so much, but replacing our perfectly good garage doors for something a little more aesthetically pleasing seemed like a waste. After a late night scroll through Amazon, I found the exact door hinges I loved so much, but in a magnetic version!

Do They Fall Off?
This was the first question I thought when stumbling upon these, but no! I was quite nervous that they would as it opens and closes, but surprisingly they’ve stayed on really well. I will say that sometimes they do get a bit crooked, but for the price point I’m more than okay fixing it from time to time.
During one of our summer storms, I was convinced they would fly off- but still nothing. They truly act just like regular garage hinges with a fraction of the price and effort.
Overall, I cannot recommend magnetic door hinges enough. For the quality at this price point, they truly are the perfect solution if you’ve ever wanted the look of decorative hinges on your home’s exterior. To shop these hinges for yourself, click the link here.
