154 days. 154 days since I dreamt up my perfect closet and tore the first shelf down. Now five months later, I get to show you all my labor of love and I could not be more thrilled. While this project is not nearly as complex as ones I’ve taken on in the past (I’m talking about you Monarch Revival Kitchen Remodel) it came at a time full of emotions and personal struggle.
I love sharing my beautiful creations online, but sometimes it can be hard to get to the final result when my daily life feels a bit out of my control. This renovation allowed me to fall back in love with creation, hard work, and patience. I feel more inspired than ever to take on new projects, but also let myself step away and come back when it feels right.
Without any further introduction, I can’t wait to dive in and show all my walk in closet ideas for Monarch Revival Closet Remodel (Part Two)! I know it’s been a long time coming, but I’m thrilled to walk you through everything I did to finish up the other half of this space.
Finishing Up The Closet Reveal
If you missed it, I finished the first half of my closet in early February. To see all the walk in closet ideas in Part One, click here. It was so refreshing to see the end in sight, but as soon as I turned to my left – the entire project needed to be completed again.
Here is a list of the projects I tackled on the second side:
- Pull out cabinets + carpet
- Remove + close off Craig’s bathroom door
- Install hardwood floors
- Build + install cabinets
- Put up Monarch Home wallpaper
- Paint laundry area
- Add all the finishing touches
If you read that list and felt overwhelmed, so did I. This project was so fulfilling in the first half, but much harder to complete in the second half. After giving myself time to fall in love with what I had created, the fire to finish came back. I was determined to finish this closet remodel.
My Most Time-Consuming Projects
While that list did feel like a mile long, there were three projects specifically that took the most time to get this closet remodel finished. While I’m glad they’re done with, looking back it was really fun to see the space transform.
Craig’s Bathroom Door
I didn’t talk about this in the Part One Reveal, but Craig and I have separate bathrooms with doors leading into our closet. We put open shelves in front of the doors for easy access to hampers and towels from the laundry. While this was functional, it was not the most aesthetically pleasing.
We had more of a need for hanging closet storage, so Craig and I decided to close up both of the second doors leading into our bathrooms. This involved taking off the doors and filling in the holes in the wall. Although this was a lot of work, I’m really happy we decided to do this in the long run. Now, I have so many beautiful gold rods instead!
Laundry Area
Since our hamper situation was receiving a revamp, I wanted to get creative with a way to hide our dirty clothes, but still make it functional. I’ve always thought that cabinets designed for discrete garbage storage could be really great in other areas. After looking at the RTA cabinet dimensions, I matched them to laundry basket dimensions – and that was it!
Finishing Touches / Styling
One thing about me, I will finish a project at 95%. I get so excited and jump to more fun things before going through all the tedious finishing touches. As the closet remodel wrapped up, I knew it was time to get those last minute details taken care of.
What am I talking about? All the little things, but specifically adding motion censored lights to the bottom of our cabinets. These are one of my favorite simple additions to the closet that makes a world of a difference. To shop them yourself, click here.
Once all these were complete, I really wanted to style this closet so it felt like a boutique. Instead of going out and buying a ton of new things, I shopped my house instead. There are a ton of decor pieces I forgot about, but now love so much.
One of my favorite decor flips – my Anthropologie Primrose mirror. It’s been sitting on top of a dresser collecting dust. Now, it’s the centerpiece of the entire room and I couldn’t love it more. To shop an identical antique gold mirror for less, click here.
Walk In Closet Ideas
This walk in closet really stretched my creativity in terms of what you can do to combine elegance and practicality. It really inspired me to tackle more of the projects I’ve been dreaming up, even if they’re a lot of work. Keep your eyes peeled because I have a ton of exciting things in the works (including re-flooring our primary bedroom to match the closet flooring). I can’t wait!
RTA Cabinets
After using RTA cabinets in a few renovations, I knew they would be perfect in our closet for a custom look without having to pay a fortune. With all this space in the closet, I wanted to use cabinets for not just foldable clothes, but to hold shoes, laundry, and my accessories.
Installing these cabinets was quite the labor of love. It may have been one of the most tedious projects I’ve ever tackled, but the end result is everything I’ve dreamed of. If you’re interested in learning all about RTA cabinets, read my complete review here.
Organization
If you missed my post on the Monarch Revival Closet Organization, I highly recommend you check it out. I just love seeing how other people organize their spaces in a way that’s functional to them, so I took a lot of time crafting the perfect storage options.
Craig and I both agreed we can’t choose between the hidden shoe storage or open hanging system as our favorite organization choice. It really lets you walk in and only see the beauty.
