To me, a closet isn’t just a space to store clothes, it’s a space to start and end each day. With the start of 2024, I really wanted to kick this year off with a bang and get my creativity flowing with a remodel. This closet has been LONG overdue for an upgrade, so it felt like the perfect place to add my own flair to create an area designed perfectly for Craig and I.
Today on the blog, I’ll be showing you the reveal of the Monarch Revival Closet Remodel – part one at least. Although it’s not completely finished, I am so in love with the first half I just had to show you all exactly what I did to make this space our own.
Wood Floor Replacement To Match House
I wouldn’t call myself a carpet hater, I have a few rooms with carpeting, but I just couldn’t stand the carpeting in our closet. It made the space feel way too muffled and dated compared to everywhere else I’ve remolded in our home. The very first thing I wanted was to get rid the carpet and install hardwood that matched everywhere else.
Although this was just the start, I found this step the most refreshing as it involved ripping everything out and starting fresh. This was so satisfying! I had the sweetest helpers (my boys) in and out with this first step of the remodel and it was the best. They make everything I do way more fun.
RTA Cabinet Build
Of everything I did in our closet, the cabinets were by far the most tedious and time consuming. I’ve built RTA cabinets time and time again, so I knew what I was getting myself into. If you want to read all my thoughts on ready to install cabinets, click here. That being said, ordering the shelves versus putting them together by hand are two VERY different things. It felt like I was swimming in drawers for weeks!
Once the cabinets are finally put together and in place, my biggest design tip is to add your own hardware and other accessories to make them feel more custom. I used antique brass cabinet handles and motion sensored lights underneath to really elevate the space. The end result is absolutely fantastic!
Monarch Home Wallpaper Install
My wallpaper design, Kate, has been on my mind for months. Although it’s more of a neutral color-wise than my other wallpaper designs, its slightly darker colors make it feel more sophisticated and moody. I’ve never been a fan of all-white closets, so this taupe floral pattern felt like the perfect addition to bring in depth.
Right now Monarch Home wallpapers are prepasted, but I used this space to test out a stick-and-peel version and so far so good! So many of you have been asking for this option, but I need to make sure it’s absolutely perfect first.
Custom Bistro Shelves
Now for the highlight of this closet, the custom bistro shelves. From the first second I saw a version of open-concept bistro shelves from Iron Abode, I immediately fell in love. It’s the perfect combination of aesthetics and functionality – what I always love in my home.
It’s the perfect spot to store all my favorite purses and accessories, but most importantly: my father’s ashes. It means everything to me that I get to start and end my day with my dad close by.
Boob Light Replacement
As many of you know, boob lights are quite possibly the ugliest lighting fixture to ever come into the design world. If you’re looking for a list of alternatives to replace your boob light, click here.
Our closet came with one of these dated lighting features, so I swapped it out for the same chandelier-like mounted sconce that brings in a grandmillenial touch and hangs close to the ceiling. To shop my crystal light flush mount, click here.
Closet Sources
Everything I bring into a space is intentionally curated with items I’ll both love and utilize. For my closet specifically, I wanted the organization to be beautiful, yet do a closet’s job and store everything. Here is a list of everything I sourced for my closet (at least the one finished side) so far:
- Vintage gold arched mirror (another one linked here!)
- Stackable jewelry organizing trays
- Gold mirrored perfume tray
- Urn necklace
- Necklace display stand
- Acrylic belt organizers
- Acrylic purse stands
- Intimates drawer organizers
- Cell drawer organizers
- Gold pant hangers
- Pink garment bags
I cannot believe the Monarch Revival Closet Remodel is halfway done! Although it’s by no means my largest project, this space has been on my remodel list for years, constantly getting pushed back by some excuse or another. I’m so happy it’s finally getting the spruce up it deserves.
