Sherwin Williams Pure White SW7005 | Before You Paint, Read This.

Monarch Colonial

13 Jun

Sherwin-Williams Pure White SW7005 is a warm-hued white with just a touch of a gray undertone. It’s clean, soft, and not too stark. If you’ve ever compared white paints, you already know: not all whites are created equal. And while all-white houses are often called timeless, they’re not usually my style. I tend to love warmth, contrast, and texture, but I’ve also found that a white backdrop in certain spaces gives just the right breathing room for those other elements to shine.

SW Pure White SW7005

Throughout designing the Monarch Colonial, I’ve really come to love using Pure White in specific rooms, especially in our kitchen and primary bathroom. It offers a beautiful balance: not too warm, not too sterile, and truly just… pure. Choosing a white can be tricky since every home and lighting situation brings out different undertones, but there’s something special about this one.

If you’re considering Pure White for your space and looking for real-life examples, I hope seeing how we’ve used it in our home is helpful.

Sherwin Williams Pure White Is Loved Color.

When I was doing some research on this shade, I came across all of the Sherwin Williams collections this particular color is a part of:

  • Color Collections: Trendsetter
  • Timeless Whites
  • Rejuvenation – Fall/Winter 2021
  • Pottery Barn / Pottery Barn Kids / Pottery Barn Teen
  • Top 50 Colors
  • Finest Whites

I don’t necessarily choose a color based on popularity, but it’s nice to see that so many people have enjoyed Sherwin Williams Pure White over time and that it holds up in person! Seeing the color online can be really helpful in narrowing down the perfect shade.

Is SW Pure White Warm Or Cool?

SW Pure White is technically a warm white, but it’s one of the softest, subtlest warm whites out there. It has a drop of yellow and a tiny touch of black in its base, which softens it just enough.

It doesn’t read creamy or beige, but it’s not crisp like a true bright white either. It’s that middle-ground white that plays nicely with almost any palette.

Where I Use Pure White In My Home

In our current home, I used Sherwin-Williams Pure White on both the walls and ceilings of our bathroom and kitchen. These spaces needed a color that felt fresh but still cozy, and Pure White totally delivered.

I love how it contrasts against darker cabinetry or soft taupes, and it reflects natural light beautifully without making the room feel sterile.

Pure White vs. Other Popular Whites

How does it compare to other well-loved whites?

  • Alabaster – Warmer and creamier than Pure White.
  • Snowbound – Slightly cooler and more gray.
  • Chantilly Lace (Benjamin Moore) – Much crisper and brighter.
  • Behr Frost – Cooler and less soft than Pure White.

Pure White strikes that balance where it’s warm enough to feel inviting, but neutral enough to pair with almost anything.

Where Can I Buy Sherwin Williams Pure White?

You can buy Sherwin Williams Pure White from any Lowe’s or at a Sherwin Williams location if you have one nearby. If neither are within driving distance (or you prefer another paint store), here’s a tip: you can actually order ANY color in ANY brand of paint as long as you have the data below:

Sherwin Williams Pure White Hex and RGB VALUES:

  • R:237G:236B:230
  • Hex Value:#edece6
  • LRV:84

Home improvement stores have the capability to match any paint with this information! These specific data points can identify the the exact shade of Sherwin Williams Pure White and create the exact same shade in any brand of paint you’d like.

The LRV of Pure White (And Why It Matters)

Pure White by Sherwin-Williams has an LRV of 84, which means it reflects a lot of light, without feeling cold or sterile. LRV stands for Light Reflectance Value, and it’s basically a measure of how much light a paint color bounces back into a space. The higher the number, the brighter the paint.

To put it in perspective:

  • True bright whites (like Ultra Pure White) land in the 90+ range and can feel stark or clinical.
  • Off-whites typically fall below 80 and have a bit more depth and moodiness.

Pure White sits comfortably in that sweet spot. It’s light enough to brighten up a space, especially in rooms that don’t get a ton of natural light, but it still has just enough softness to avoid looking harsh or icy. That balance makes it one of my go-to picks for ceilings, walls, and even cabinetry.

If you’re trying to make a space feel airy and open, but still cozy and inviting, the LRV of Pure White does a lot of that heavy lifting for you.

Tips Before You Commit to A WHITE PAINT COLOR

White paint might seem simple… until you hold up a few swatches and realize how different they all are. Before you go all-in on Pure White, here are a few things I always recommend:

  • Test in multiple lighting conditions-  Light changes throughout the day, and so will your paint. Try Pure White on different walls and take a peek at it in morning, afternoon, and evening light. What looks crisp and clean at noon might feel more shadowed or creamy in the evening.
  • Compare it to other whites- You don’t need to swatch a dozen colors, but grab at least two or three to test side by side. This helps you notice subtle undertones, like how Pure White has that touch of warmth and softness that makes it feel less stark than, say, Chantilly Lace or Ultra Pure White.
  • Check it against your fixed elements-  Hold your sample near your tile, counters, backsplash, and flooring. Some undertones in Pure White may become more pronounced depending on what it’s next to. For example, warm-toned wood floors might bring out the cozy side of Pure White, while cool marble counters could make it look a little more crisp.

A little testing up front saves a ton of second-guessing later. And once you see it in your own space, you’ll know whether Pure White is your white.

Sherwin-Williams Pure White SW7005 is one of those go-to whites that feels like a safe, smart choice, but also a beautiful one. It’s soft but not creamy, bright but not stark, and works with almost any style.
